We are very proud to offer you this vintage PANERAI LUMINOR Corpo Dei Carabinieri Ref.6521/1 in stainless steel with leather strap and original steel buckle.
In the late fifties and early sixties PANERAI supplied to the Italian military the reference number 6152/1. This reference had the patented crown protection, making it more robust for dives and underwater heavy duty use. These watches were made for dives of up to 200 m in depth - a huge depth back then. The case and especially the lugs were also designed for heavy duty use and robustness.
The case and movement were made and supplied by Rolex to PANERAI. Some of these watches have engravings in the back: S.M.Z, P.S. and C.C. This piece is a C.C., it was bought by the Italian Military for the Carabinieri dive unit. Of these only 26 were ever made/engraved. Hence this one - C.C. 2X - is very rare.
Given its rare find - this watch was found by a well known collector at the family of the CC diver - authenticity and excellent condition, Jose Perez wrote an article on this specific watch which can be found on his website - Perezcope perezcope.com/2017/07/20/6152-1-corpo-carabinieri/ ).
He also chose this watch to feature it in his well known PANERAI Timeline. A Perezcope Timeline comes with this watch, hand signed by the recently deceased widow of Mr. Panerai. In addition the watch comes with a letter from the daughter of the diver (the diver suffers under dementia due to old age) and an original picture of the diver.
It is an incredible piece.
These watches are - while being heavy duty tools for military use - absolutely stunning beauties. The case, buckle, dial, hands, indices are all of sublime design and extremely harmoniouos to behold.
A true beauty that can hardly be found in heavy duty issued watches. While large in size, it wears well and with ease. And it is a pleasure to behold and wear every time.
These watches are one of the few true historic icons left.
We think they have not risen in value to where they should be - a true investment piece.
