Bachmann & Scher is proud to offer you this excellent and extremely rare vintage Breitling Navitimer `pre-806` in stainless steel.
Manufactured in 1954 with the legendary Valjoux Cal.72 manual wind movement built in.
This is a grail watch.
Super rare collectors item from the very first generation of Navtimer, pre-806.
All original radium dial and hands.
Very early example of the iconic gentleman Pilots Chronograph with calculator bezel.
In the 1950s Breitling was keen to penetrate the US market. Having struck a deal with the AOPA (Airplane Owners and Pilots Association) the very first Navitimer was launched in 1954. The first models featured the famous Valjoux Cal.72 manual wind movement.
The watch was a great success - a true tool watch that allowed pilots to accurately calculate their flight speeds, with the bi-directional bezel with slide rule scale.
As demand for the Navtimer increased, the Valjoux calibers became too expensive and could not be supplied in the numbers required. Therefore in late 1955, Breitling began using the more common and more cost effective Venus cal.178.
The Valjoux Navitimers are the most iconic and wanted. The early pieces have no reference number, hence pre-806. They are very rare and almost impossible to find in this condition.
